How to Turn Your Home Into a Daycare

Caring for children in your home can be a wonderful experience, allowing those with a genuine love of children to make a living doing something they enjoy. Turning your home into a daycare, however, can be a tricky process. Several steps need to be taken before you can successfully open your doors to the world.

First and foremost, decide how many children you wish to care for and find out whether you need to become licensed or not. Most states do not require licensure for in-home care of small groups of children, but if you wish to have more than three or four it will probably be necessary. This can be done by contacting your area Office of Child Care Licensing. Whether you decide to become licensed or not, it is a good idea to complete a course in pediatric first aid and CPR-this way you will be prepared for emergencies that come along.

Then examine your home. Is it childproofed? If you are planning on accommodating small children, and if you're planning on making daycare a full time profession you probably are, your will need to take appropriate measures to ensure that your home is safe. Childproofing supplies are available at many local stores. Outlet covers in the wall, child proof latches on doors and cupboards and appropriate safety gates on stairways are a good place to start (when buying a gate for a stairwell ensure it is the kind that can be anchored to the wall-children may push over a pressure gate). You may also want to consider a safety latch for the toilet-very small children can fall into a toilet and not be able to get themselves out.

Next, you want to purchase your supplies. Necessary daycare supplies range from outdoor playground equipment and an assortment of toys to high chairs, booster seats, cribs, extra sippy cups and plastic flatware. If you have completed the licensing process you will have already obtained a list of these items. Ensure that all equipment meets current safety standards, and no toys have been recalled. It also is a good idea to stock up on basic art supplies, such as crayons, watercolors, child safety scissors and coloring books.

Don't forget your first aid supplies! You are going to want to have on hand a full first aid kit, with plenty of disinfectant, band-aids, antibiotic ointment, burn spray, calamine lotion, sunblock and lotion (for the eventuality the sunblock does not work). It is often beneficial to have Children's Ibuprofen and Tylenol on hand, but bear in mind this should not be administered without a parent's approval.

You can choose to advertise your new business by word of mouth, classified ads, fliers-the possibilities are endless. Be sure to have an interview sheet made up when meeting a new child. This should contain questions on emergency contacts, allergies (food, drug and other), past daycare history, any favorite objects/hobbies and any dislikes, as well as any other information you would like to have on hand. Be sure when meeting the parents that you establish your policies on pick up and drop off times, payment, and what supplies you will provide versus what you would like them to provide It may be a good idea to have these policies printed and signed to avoid disputes down the road. Once these steps have all been completed, sit back, relax, and enjoy the new career you've chosen.

Now is the Time to Quit Smoking

We can only hope that the baby boomer generation will be the last one who grew up in a culture where smoking was cool and acceptable. The health passion of baby boomers that comes out of their dislike of anything that accelerates the aging process is one of the reasons the anti smoking movement has gained strength in the last decade. The reasons for quitting smoke are well known to anyone who has paid attention to the issue at all.

. Smoking reduces the life span. For the baby boomer generation, living a long and healthy life is a way of staying young. Smoking not only shortens the life span but it is a plague to your health in every era of life.

. Smoking destroys quality of life. Simple pleasures like breathing and enjoying a fine meal are damaged because smoking dominates the lungs and taste buds. The pleasures that make life worthwhile are rendered neutral by smoking.

. Smoking hurts the innocent. Secondary smoke hurts the ones you love and it plants in children the desire to smoke in their adult lives.

. Smoking brings on dire diseases such as cancer and lung disease. These diseases are deadly and they can make life in your retirement years miserable.

. Smoking makes you ugly. This may be the worst crime there is to a baby boomer. Smoking causes wrinkles and dries the skin making you look decades older than you really are.

The good news is that even for baby boomers who may have been smoking for decades, it’s always possible to quit. Sometimes it’s easy to decide you can never beat this addiction. You may have tried the patches and pills and even hypnotism and the desire for the nicotine poison lingers on. But it is possible to do it. There are some steps to getting it done which will take a while but they are proven to work.

. Get plenty of support. Get your family on your side and educate them on your program. If you commit to them you are going to do it, they can love that habit out of your system.

. Catalog your smoking. Make a precise journal of exactly how many cigarettes you have every day, when you have them and even who you are with when you have them.

. Stabilize your usage. Now select the 10 or 20 times each day you will have a cigarette and only let yourself have one at those allotted times. Do this for about 2 weeks. If you want a cigarette at another time, just promise yourself you will wait for it.

. Starting with week one of the quit smoking campaign, eliminate one cigarette from your routine. Pick the easiest time not to have one. Pick the time that is least social so you feel less pressure to go ahead and light up. So where you may have smoked 20 cigarettes a day before, now you smoke 19 a day. Do that for 2 weeks. If you want a cigarette during that eliminated time, just promise yourself you can have one at the next allowed smoke break.

. Eliminate one cigarette from your schedule every do weeks. 18 cigarettes a day for 2 weeks, then 17, then 16 and on and on. Keep notes. Go from easiest time to quit to hardest.

. With each successful phase, have a little celebration with your friends and family.

. Finally you will down to one a day. You will have scaled your dependency down to this one tiny smoke break. You will come to that moment when you say, “Oh what’s the point of having the one?” Then you can crumple up your last pack and throw it way.

The great thing about this approach is its free and you just slowly reduce your dependence by promising yourself that cigarette at the next allowed smoke time. Stay with the same brand so your level of nicotine remains constant. And by staying at each level for a couple of weeks, you give your body a chance to slowly get used to each reduced level until you have weaned yourself off of the dreaded weed entirely. And when you throw that final pack away, its time for a big party. Congratulate yourself because you have quit smoking and just added years of fun and happiness and joy with your family to your life.

Bridal Accessories Include The Cake Knife

When brides plan their weddings and plan for the cake and the guests and the wedding favors, they sometimes forget the obvious, the cake knife. Although the cake knife is a small part of the wedding reception, it still needs to look elegant. After all, you will be cutting the cake and having pictures taken as you do. You want a cake knife that matches your type of wedding. If you have a themed wedding, you might choose a different cake knife than what a bride who has a fancy gala for her wedding. You have many styles and designs to choose from for a wedding cake knife.

The wedding cake knife usually comes in a set with a server as well. You might choose a plain pearl handle cake knife and server or a cake knife and server with silver, beads and crystals in a bow type ornament on the handle. You can choose the wedding cake knife and server that displays a cross or the set that has an acrylic handle that looks like crystal. There are so many styles to choose from when you are planning your bridal accessories list. You might even find that browsing the Internet will give you some great ideas.

The bride and groom will use the cake knife to join hands and cut the first piece of cake as husband and wife. This event is usually the highlight of the reception and you want a knife and server that is elegant and will fit your wedding. Pictures will be taken during this time and want something that will not take away from your hands or the cake itself. These are the pictures, which everyone seems to forget about when choosing the cake knife and server set.

Bridal accessories are sometimes overlooked until the last minute. In many cases, the cake knife and server are the last minute thing. You can usually find great deals on cake cutting sets at a local retailer or a bridal shop. If you have time to wait for shipping, you can find beautifully designed sets online for affordable prices. Some brides like the idea of something beautiful and something old, therefore, many use cake knifes and servers passed down through the family. This is also a nice idea for a family tradition. The idea of the server is for serving the cake.

The proper way to serve a piece of wedding cake is with the cake server. Many people think that the knife is sufficient, but proper etiquette is to serve the slice of cake with a cake server. Is Bigger Better in Auto Sound Systems?

When it comes to auto sound systems, one question seems to be repeated often-is bigger better? The honest answer to that is not by a long shot. There are many excellent quality sound systems that will not require the backseat and your first-born in order to enjoy wonderful quality of sound and music as you drive along on your daily commute. One thing that is important to remember is that dynamite does in fact come in small packages. The same can be true of a good quality sound system for your car, truck, or SUV.

You can elect to have the full range sound package. This package, if not custom installed by the dealer can take up a great deal of real estate within your car, truck, or SUV. If you own a compact car, these types of speakers and this particular type of sound system is definitely not recommended. The first reason it is unattractive is that it will most likely require either the vast majority of your trunk or take out your back seat. I for one like being able to cart around friends, relatives, and/or children-my back seat isn't up for grabs. I also prefer the continuity of a factory-installed system that takes up none of the premium living space within the interior of my SUV.

I am personally biased towards the wonderful sound quality of the Bose sound system and speakers. The quality of sound with this particular system is excellent and any true music lover will tell you that good quality of sound is better by far than a louder sound. This is not to say that the Bose sound system will be the perfect choice for everyone to use as his or her auto sound system only that it is my first choice as a music lover.

I prefer a softer sound that has good quality to a louder sound of the substandard or even average quality on any day. The problem with most 'big' sound systems and speakers is that they often sound hollow or tinny rather than full and robust. A good auto sound system will provide the best possible sound within the confines of the least possible space. You will probably find that you don't need to sacrifice your backseat in order to hold the speakers and while the Bose sound system for automobiles does cost more than some sound systems, it won't require a second mortgage on your home in order to afford. There are actually times in life when you get what you pay for.

The important thing to remember is that you do not have to have the most expensive, the best known, or even the biggest sound system in order to have a wonderful quality sound system in your automobile. You will not even have to have a Bose sound system in order to have a sound system that is not only excellent quality but also excellent sound. You do not need to pay an arm and a leg or any other appendages in order to have a good sound on your daily commute to work.

Music is all around us, at work, at home, on television shows. Music sets moods, sets tones, and kills moods on occasion. It only makes sense that you have good quality equipment upon which to play the music that so greatly enhances and enriches your life. If you are in the market for an auto sound system it only makes sense to listen to several before deciding on the one that will work best with your musical tastes and your desire for your vehicle sound system. Don't be misled by commission minded sales associated that think you need the latest, greatest, and most expensive toy on the market. Find a system that sounds good to you and go with that system. You do not have to go for a better sound if you find a sound you like that should be enough.

Don’t Let Your Dog Walk You

Be Unpredictable

Making quick and abrupt turns in the opposite direction anytime your dog starts to get ahead of you will teach him to pay attention to where you’re going. Praise him lavishly when he returns to your side and even reward with a small treat if your dog is food motivated. The idea is to stop the pulling before it even starts by catching him off guard. Be calm, no need to scold him, he’ll figure it out.

You may have to turn around forty times in the first session and barely make it half way down the driveway, but don’t worry, it will get better the more you practice. Many dogs catch on quickly to this game and start to watch their owner closely to see what they’ll do next. A dog that’s paying attention to you isn’t pulling on the leash.

Set The Rules

And stick to them! Decide once and for all that you will not allow him to pull and then react anytime he tries to move ahead of you. This means you’ll have to be watching him closely during the first couple sessions. Allowing him to pull sometimes but not all the time will only confuse your dog. Look at your next couple walks as training experiences, not exercise. Once your dog gets the hang of it then you can start to plan on moving past the driveway.

Practice, Distract, and Practice Some More

Teaching good leash walking skills is an ongoing process. You may always need to ‘be unpredictable’ every once in a while even after your dog understands what you expect. Keep him on his toes and keep practicing. Don’t be stingy with the praise, let him know when he’s doing the right thing and you’ll start to see more of that behavior.
